Hey. Welcome to my blog. I suppose I’d better introduce myself.
My name is Amy, I’m 21-years-young and I’m from Northern Ireland. I live half of my year in N.I. and the other half in Leeds where I study Fashion Communication at university. Funny enough, the latter is actually the reason behind this blog. I’m starting my final year come September, and therefore starting a new project. I’ve chosen to create this site as a means of keeping track of the static noise that is my creative thought process. I plan to document my research, my opinions, my photography and just about anything else that I can think of that might help form a better concept for my project.
The project itself, as you might have guessed, will be based loosely on my birthplace, good ‘ole Northern Ireland. More specifically, well as specific as I can be in these early stages, the social issues that are still very prevalent in today’s society, that perhaps more-so than people aware of, such as equality (or lack thereof.) I will also be delving into the depths of our history, of which there is plenty, good and bad. Why are we so “behind the times” compared to our neighbouring countries, decades after The Troubles (more on that later) have ended? How is this impacting the standards of living? Or the creative industry? I have a million questions I’d love the answers to.
I’m actually really excited to start this work, and to learn even more about where I come from. I’ll start by researching via books, other artists, documentaries, word-of-mouth, drawing, photography etc which I’m sure will help me narrow down my area of interest, since this is such a vast topic. I’m proud of where I come from, and although it’s very easy to criticise, we are making great strides in the right direction, so I’ll try to keep an open mind throughout this process in order to keep my project fair and honest. I can’t exactly preach about equality if I can’t see both sides of the story, right?
I, as a young person (or just person in general really) am super passionate about trying to make the world a better place, even if at the minute that just means educating others on things. That’s what I primarily hope to do with this project, and as a Fashion Communicator, to portray important messages and hopefully in doing so, bring about some much needed change. I think home is a pretty good place to start.
